For almost 18
years, Judy and John Arreola lived in the southeastern part of Venezuela,
in a community at the confluence of the Orinoco and Caroni Rivers,
called Puerto Ordaz, which was founded, built and developed by several
major U.S. corporations in the 1950's.
Among them were
U.S. Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Reynolds Metals Company, and others.
Several American and English-speaking families lived there, along
with the local Venezuelans, to form a very active social life. While
the husbands worked, the wives played golf, tennis, bridge, or cooked.
Many of the
recipes we offer you are either our own creation or our favorites
from dinner parties we attended.
